Almost 90% of Slovaks think that the state should take more care of its own citizens, not of everyone without distinction, indicates a recent survey carried out by Focus agency on behalf of the Milan Šimečka Foundation. As many as 72.2% of people think that the state is currently overlooking support for other foreigners living in Slovakia. Up to 90% of the Slovak public is of the opinion that if people from Ukraine want to be accepted in Slovak society, they should mainly strive for it themselves.
"The research shows that although we have recorded the largest wave of solidarity with people on the run in Slovakia, it turns out that this situation brings many fears and insecurities. It is natural and understandable, it is all the more important to work not only with those coming to Slovakia but also with the general public," said the head of the Foundation Veronika Fishbone Vlčková. The majority of respondents support the opinion that helping people fleeing Ukraine is at the expense of the Slovak population.
