Some 609,000 people stayed at tourist accommodation facilities in Slovakia in July, with the number going up by 4.1 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), the Statistics Office reported on Monday. However, hotels, guest houses and other accommodation facilities in July of this year reported one sixth fewer guests as compared to the pre-pandemic period (in 2019), when the figure was 100,000 higher. The current figure is roughly at the level of July 2018. Guests spent over 1.8 million nights in accommodation facilities, with the average length of stay at 3 nights in July. The slow return of foreign clientele to Slovak hotels and guesthouses continued in July. A total of 218,000 foreign visitors used accommodation services in July, which is the highest figure to be reported since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The number of foreign visitors doubled y-o-y and was only one quarter lower as compared to the pre-pandemic period.
