Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger presented to President Zuzana Čaputová three names of candidates to replace departing ministers for the Freedom and Solidarity party, which left the Government. However, the PM did not present any candidate for the post of Education Minister and asked the President to entrust him with the management of the ministry for the time being, until the government finds a candidate. The candidate for the post of Economy minister is Karel Hirman, the Justice Ministry could be headed by Viliam Karas and the Foreign Affairs Ministry by Rastislav Káčer. Karas is the President of the Bar Association Council, Hiermany an energy expert and Káčer is the Slovak Ambassador to the Czech Republic.
In response to the publication of the names of the candidates, the Let's Stop Corruption Foundation commented that if Karas becomes Justice Minister, it has serious concerns about the continuation of reforms and the strengthening of anti-corruption legislation. For example, also about the modification of paragraph 363 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The Stop Corruption states that the Bar Association Council not only failed to deal sufficiently with people from its own ranks suspected of corruption, but often alibistically defended them. "This includes the president of the Slovak Bar Association, who, among other things, said in an interview that he considered the penalties for corruption to be high," writes the foundation on social media.
