Italy is an important country for Slovakia, particularly at the times of energy crisis, as it has LNG terminals at its disposal and a network of gas pipelines linked directly with Slovakia, Prime Minister Eduard Heger stated after his meeting with Italian counterpart Mario Draghi in Rome on Thursday. The two also discussed the geopolitical situation in the wake of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Heger pointed out that Italy is extending humanitarian, military and financial aid to Ukraine. The premiers discussed the domestic political situation in both countries and the importance of unity within the EU. "It's necessary to maintain this unity also in the current times and navigate the citizens of the EU through the trying energy crisis safely," added Heger. Italy is nearing early parliamentary election slated for September 25.
