Memorial Day for Victims of the Holocaust and of Racial Violence

By laying wreaths at the Holocaust monument in Bratislava, Prime Minister Eduard Heger along with House Chair Boris Kollar will commemoratethe Day for Victims of the Holocaust and of Racial Violence. Similar ceremonies are taking place all over the country. On 9th September, 1941, Slovak government of the then Nazi allied state passed the so called “Jewish Codex” that resulted in depriving 80 000 of its Jewish citizens of their civil and economic rights. 6 months later, in March 1942, the first transport to concentration camps was sent to Auschwitz. 9th September was approved as a remembrance day in Slovakia in 2001. In Senec, southern Slovakia, the Jewish cemetery will be open to public on Sunday as part of the European Day of Jewish Culture.
