President Zuzana Caputova returned home from her official visit to Greece and North Macedonia on Wednesday. The foreign visit revolved around efforts to seek cooperation in addressing the energy crisis, green transition and the effort to open the door to Slovak businesses, science and NGOs in the two countries. In North Macedonia, the President met with President Stevo Pendarovski and Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski. In Athens, she held talks with President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. She concurred with them that the way out of the energy crisis lies in the gradual reduction of Europe's dependency on Russian energy and close European cooperation on the diversification of resources as well as the use of renewable energy sources. According to Caputova, an opportunity for Slovakia can present itself also in the planned opening of the energy hub in Greece, by virtue of new LNG terminals, and the re-orienting of the gas flow from east-west to south-north, an endeavour to which North Macedonia plans to contribute significantly.
