Documentary series to chronicle story of Czechoslovak secret police

The formation and methods of the Czechoslovak secret police (ŠtB), which was the main tool of the repressive apparatus of the totalitarian communist regime, will be revealed in the documentary series ŠtB: Top Secret. The 20-part television series focuses on stories that have not been covered before in film and history and on presenting new findings and connections in better-known cases. The author and producer of the series, Tibor Búza, held a press conference in Bratislava on Tuesday alongside the series’ other creators and its broadcaster. The creators said they originally researched approximately 50 topics that they wanted to address, eventually narrowing the list down to the 20 episodes actually produced. They added that they had worked on the series with top historians from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and that all historical institutes that deal with the topic cooperated with them. The first episode of the documentary series ŠtB: Top Secret, entitled Downfall - The Legend of Alojz Lorenc, will be broadcast by RTVS on channel Jednotka on Wednesday, September 7 at 10:05 p.m., with the next 19 episodes to appear regularly at the same time every week.
