The Slovak National Uprising has become one of the key events of modern Slovak history. It broke out as an armed resistance against Nazism and fascism. On Monday, 29 August, Slovakia commemorated the event as a national holiday - the 78th anniversary of the SNP. This day was declared a national holiday by the National Council of the Slovak Republic on 20 October 1993. The national celebrations were held in Banská Bystrica on Monday with a flypast of the Slovak Armed Forces' aviation equipment and a commemorative act of laying wreaths. The celebrations were held on the grounds of the Slovak National Uprising Museum and were attended by President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová, Chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Boris Kollár and Prime Minister Eduard Heger, as well as representatives of diplomatic corps from more than 35 countries. Authoritarian regimes are a threat even today. They have the ambition to return, in new, reincarnated forms. President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová said this in her speech at the celebrations of the 78th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) in Banská Bystrica. Some politicians exploit the difficult position of their citizens and build their extremism on them. Prime Minister Eduard Heger pointed this out in his speech. According to him, it is now necessary to fight so that fascism never again has a place in society. He also highlighted the heroism of the SNP participants. On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP), several Slovak ministers highlighted the heroism of its participants. In this context, they also referred to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
