Over 40% of teenagers can't recognize hoaxes

41 percent of Slovak teenagers cannot distinguish between true and false health information. This is according to research by psychologists from Comenius University in Bratislava and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. TASR press agency was informed about this by university spokeswoman Lenka Miller. According to her, the results of the research point to the importance of educating adolescents in the field of working with health information. The findings also showed that 48 percent of respondents trusted true medical news more than false ones. "When assessing online information, they pay attention to the structure of the site, language and appearance. They trust reliable organizations, verified brands, or sites with reputable language more," Miller explained. The research was conducted on a sample of 300 high school students between the ages of 16 and 19. "Researchers tested their perceptions of the credibility of seven short messages about the health benefits of fruits and vegetables. The messages were varied: false, true with a neutral charge and true with added elements," a spokeswoman reported.
