Aid from Slovakia for Ukrainian orphans

Slovakia is helping Ukrainian children who have lost their parents. In the Transcarpathian region, there is a project for a safe home for children from Mariupol in Seredno, and the establishment of a physiotherapy centre in Svaliava. This region has a population of 1.2 million. It is currently home to some 375,000 people from the eastern parts of Ukraine seeking refuge from the war, including 120,000 children. For the administration there, this also means a heavy financial burden, said Eduard Buraš, advisor to the Prime Minister on cross-border cooperation, after a visit to the area. He warned of the risk of further developments in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine. "It is difficult to predict what we are going to face in the autumn as a result of what is happening, but it is clear that the impact may be on us, on our border, and it may manifest itself here as well," he said. The purpose of the visit to Ukraine was to get acquainted with the current situation. The region was also visited by the children's ombudsman Jozef Mikloško, the chairman of the Slovak Bishops' Conference Council for Migrants and Refugees Jozef Haľko, and the Archbishop of the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Košice, Cyril Vasiľ.
