54th anniversary of Warsaw pact troops invasion to Czechoslovakia

President Zuzana Caputova has attended a ceremony commemorating the 54th anniversary of the occupation of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact troops. The event took place at Safarik Square in Bratislava, where a widely recognised photograph of a bare chested man facing a tank was taken. On Sunday, 21^st August, Slovaks will remember the day when the armies of former eastern bloc countries led by the Soviet Union entered the former Czechoslovakia in order to protect the country against the tendencies of the capitalist west. Soviet leaders aimed to halt the process of liberalization of the socialist country using armed forces.
