Schools to receive EU funding for Ukrainian pupils

Schools will receive a financial contribution for pupils from Ukraine in September. In total, it will be more than ten million euros. In the new school year, funding will be allocated according to the number of children from Ukraine reported by the school at the end of the month. Schools will receive funding every quarter. Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport Branislav Gröhling announced this at a press conference on Tuesday. The allowance per pupil will be roughly EUR 200 per month. In the past, schools already received a one-off allowance of EUR 200 for each pupil from Ukraine. This time, according to the Education Minister, each school will receive a state contribution per pupil from Slovakia and a European contribution for education per pupil from Ukraine. According to Gröhling, this can be used for rewards, the purchase of aids or equipment. In May, the education ministry registered more than 10,400 pupils from Ukraine in schools, while in June there were more than 8,750. Most pupils, almost a quarter, were in the Bratislava region.
