Year-on-year (y-o-y) inflation in Slovakia rose to 13.6 percent in July 2022, with month-on-month (m-o-m) inflation reaching 0.8 percent, the Statistics Office reported on Monday. Consumer prices reported double-digit growth for the fifth consecutive month. The most important expenditure items for Slovak households, food and housing, including energy, were almost a fifth more expensive in yearly terms. Prices were mainly driven up by more expensive solid fuels, bread and meat. July saw a drop in fuel prices, however. In the first seven months of the year, consumer prices increased by 11.3 percent year-on-year on average. Meanwhile, the Unity of Pensioners in Slovakia continues to collect signatures for its petition. At the same time, they are concerned because the demands on the petition appear to be minimal help for seniors in view of the high prices. Valéria Pokorná, vice-president of the Unity of Pensioners in Slovakia, informed about it. Food is 20% more expensive year-on-year, with bread and pastry prices up 23.4%, meat up 20% and milk, cheese and eggs up almost 22%.
