The unfavourable situation regarding rainfall began to worsen again during the first half of August, reported the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) on Monday. The institute pointed out that the continued absence of widespread and longer-lasting precipitation is again causing stream beds to dry up, especially in the basins of the southern half of the country. "Although the end of July brought cyclonic weather with widespread precipitation, the unfavourable hydrological situation began to worsen again during the first half of August," wrote the institute on social media. It also noted the rainfall in the past few days has occurred only locally and for a short period.
