Health Workers Unions and Gov’t agreed on first of eight requests

The Medical Trade Union Association (LOZ) has agreed with government representatives to meet one of the eight demands that the LOZ has defined as basic steps to prevent the collapse of the health care system. In the autumn, the discriminatory taxation of doctors' training will be abolished, confirmed The Medical Trade Union Association chairman Peter Visolajský after negotiations with Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger, Finance Minister Igor Matovič, Health Minister Vladimír Lengvarský, each with his team. However, as Visolajský said, the health workers have only heard oral promises and have not received a written guarantee. Regarding doctors' and nurses' wages, the medical unions have not received concrete ideas or figures from government officials. They have only been told that there are two options in play and the ministries will analyse further. As the head of the union pointed out, with the apparatus of analysts in the ministries, this takes too long. The situation in the hospitals, he said, is serious, wards are closing and doctors' resignations will only stop when the government takes action. According to representatives of nurses, the Government was fully aware of the importance of the health sector and the position of nurses within it. The negotiations should continue on Monday.
