Statistics: Slovakia's Trade Balance €78 million in Red in June

Following a surplus of €160 million in May, Slovakia's trade balance fell into the red again in June with a deficit amounting to €78 million, the Slovak Statistics Office announced in its preliminary report for June 2022. The trade balance was negatively influenced by year-on-year increases in imports of oil, gas and selected industrial products. Meanwhile, the surplus in trading cars continued to have a positive impact on it. Slovakia's trade balance had been positive for ten years in the month of June, with a surplus of €211.1 million in June 2021 and even of €846.5 million in 2020. Exports totalled €8.7 billion in June 2022, up 12.9 percent y-o-y. Imports grew by 17.1 percent y-o-y to reach €8.8 billion. "Exports posted a y-o-y increase for the eighth month in a row, and imports over an even longer period - 17 months," stated the office. After seasonal adjustments, the trade balance posted a deficit of €63.6 million in June 2022. Total exports of goods reached €8.5 billion, growing by 13 percent y-o-y. Total imports increased by 17 percent to €8.5 billion. In the first half of this year, exports rose by 13.4 percent year-on-year to €50.1 billion, while imports grew by 22 percent to €51.6 billion. Slovakia's trade balance thus notched up a deficit of €1.5 billion. In the same period of last year, it posted a surplus of over €1.9 billion.
