Survey: 67% of Slovaks fear high prices

As many as 67% of Slovaks fear higher prices and inflation, while more than half of Slovaks feel a significant worsening of their standard of living, according to a survey carried out by the job website Kariera.sk on a sample of 5,340 respondents. The company noted that the inflation rate has reached its highest level in decades, with 8.9% in the eurozone and 12.8% in Slovakia in July. "More than half of Slovak households were forced to start managing their finances more effectively. On the other hand, 38% of respondents felt the higher prices only to a minimal degree," said the company's communications manager Katarína Tešla.

According to the Slovak Statistics Office, prices have risen in all 12 monitored categories. The prices of food, fuel and energy are continuing to rise, as is the cost of services. Slovaks have to pay considerably more in restaurants, cafes, hotels and most recently also for clothes and shoes. However, the cost of housing takes the largest share of the expenses of Slovak households.

"The substantial rise of inflation, constant price rises and the threatening energy crisis are also reflected in the savings of Slovaks. As many as 65% of respondents feel a negative impact of rising prices on their ability to put aside regular monthly savings to the extent that they did before. However, 35% of the respondents have not noticed any significant rise in living expenses and can save as much as before.
