Interior Ministry rescuers fighting Czech fire for a week

Members of the Slovak Interior Ministry’s Fire and Rescue Service have been in full deployment for several weeks now helping to deal with fires in different parts of Europe. After Slovenia, barely 19 hours after arriving home, they set out to help their colleagues in the Czech Republic, where they have been for a week now. In the Czech Switzerland National Park, the fire has destroyed more than 1,000 hectares. The most effective firefighting has been from the air, with the help of aircraft that include a helicopter sent by Slovakia along with the firefighters. The first group of eight firefighters sent by the country was replaced on Sunday by a second, nine-member group, which should remain in the affected area until Friday. The president of Slovakia’s Fire and Rescue Service, Pavol Mikolášek, is set to arrive at the at the site of the fire today.
