On Thursday 28 July, the exhibition "Naša a svetová Klára Jarunková" or "Our Klára Jarunková and the world's" was opened at Bratislava's Bibiana, the international house of art for children, to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the most translated Slovak author of books for children and youth. The exhibition was prepared in cooperation with the Piešťany city library. Klára Jarunková was born on April 28, 1922 in what is now central Slovakia. After working as a teacher and an editor, she wrote her first children’s book in 1960, which according to Bibiana’s Juraj Šebesta, met with a strong response both from readers and critics, and her books became successful abroad as well, eventually being published in 32 languages. Altogether Jarunková wrote 22 books, for which she received numerous awards. According to Šebesta, although her books were not always idyllically happy, they were full of gentle humor, kindness and optimism.
