Former Slovak premier Mikulas Dzurinda has become a member of an international working group dealing with security guarantees for Ukraine, Dzurinda himself confirmed for TASR press agency. The group will serve as a consultative platform for the Ukrainian political leadership. According to the press release, the aim is to make recommendations on how the guarantees could look and work in practice. The group will be guided by four principles. First, Ukraine's independence depends on its ability to defend itself. Next, its ability to defend itself depends on successful post-war reconstruction. Sanctions against Russia are crucial for Ukraine's security, and the future of the country as a sovereign state at the heart of Europe. The members of the group are former top politicians and representatives of foreign-policy institutes from Ukraine, the USA, Poland, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden and Australia.
