Ministry of Agriculture calls for stricter controls on imported grain

The crisis staff of the Agriculture Ministry has issued instructions to the Central Agricultural Control and Experimental Institute and the State Veterinary and Food Administration to step up the sampling and monitoring of all grain commodities entering Slovakia, TASR learnt from the ministry on Monday. The two authorities should mainly focus on pesticide residues and radiological testing. The Agriculture Ministry is responding in this manner to the fact that Ukraine can now export its grain to world markets via Slovakia. Despite the measures, representative of the crisis staff Zuzana Nouzovska stated that the body supports the idea of 'solidarity corridors' for the transit of Ukrainian wheat to third countries.
