President asks for early resolution of the coalition crisis

Following her meeting with Prime Minister Eduard Heger, president Zuzana Caputova said she expects an early resolution of the coalition crisis, for which the government is responsible. Caputova described the replacement of ministers as one of the possible alternatives to solve the crisis and ensure the stability of the government. Eduard Heger thinks it is important to complete the electoral term in a four-member coalition, however, he does not rule out a minority government. According to the prime minister, the coalition crisis was triggered by a popularity poll, which showed Finance Minister Igor Matovic as the most unpopular politician. The dispute escalated most significantly after the parliament overrode the president's veto on the so-called anti-inflation package pushed by Matovic. Freedom and Solidarity party has declared that it is no longer part of the coalition and if Matovic is not replaced by the end of August, their ministers will resign.
