Analyst: Unemployment went down in June, but so did number of vacancies

Unemployment in Slovakia fell in June, but so did the number of job vacancies in the economy, stated UniCredit Bank analyst Lubomir Korsnak. Commenting on June’s unemployment figures released by the Labour Ministry on Wednesday, Korsnak on the one hand sees a positive trend continuing on the labour market, yet the number of vacancies was chiefly decreasing in industry, which remains the sector of the economy with the biggest shortage of labour. This only attests to the fact that the labour market is not absolutely immune to the deceleration of GDP growth and record-high inflation. Labour Minister Milan Krajniak reported on Wednesday that unemployment in Slovakia dropped to 6.28 percent in June 2022, decreasing by 1.48 percentage points year-on-year, and 0.07 percent from the previous month.
