Discussions over coalition crisis

Head of the coalition Freedom and Solidarity party Richard Sulik met with Prime Minister Eduard Heger on Saturday evening to discuss the coalition crisis. According to the statement, Sulik and Heger addressed a number of matters, but the meeting did not lead to any specific results as the party continues to insist on its demand that Finance Minister Igor Matovic must resign or be dismissed, or else liberal ministers will tender their resignations in September.

Speaking on a private TV discussion programme, head of the Freedom and Solidarity caucus Anna Zemanova claimed on Sunday that despite the fact that the meeting over the coalition crisis did not lead to any specific developments, the talks were constructive. If the other coalition parties demand the resignation of Sulik from the post of economy minister in return for Matovic's ouster, Freedom and Solidarity members will listen to their arguments and discuss the matter, according to Zemanova. Head of the OLaNO caucus Michal Sipos, who was also on the show, stated that the leadership of his party should meet next week to discuss the next course of action within the coalition. According to him, OLaNO wants to preserve the existing coalition, but dismissing Matovic is a red line the party is not willing to cross.
