The liberal Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party is no longer part of the coalition, its leader and Economy Minister Richard Sulik told the media on Tuesday. However, the party’s ministers planned to participate in Wednesday's government session. As Sulik declared, the liberals have an interest in the incumbent government staying in power until the regular election. They only ask for the re-drafting of the coalition agreement, repeatedly violated in the past in Sulik's view. “We're not interested in early elections. We want this term to end normally. All that has to be done is to draft a new coalition agreement," claimed Sulik, adding that the current agreement had been repeatedly violated. Sulik rejects notions of the SaS' withdrawal from the coalition signalling the start of its election campaign. He underlined that the SaS did not leave the coalition to bolster its own standing but because it became impossible to function in it any longer.
As for the coalition agreement, Sulik wants it re-drafted to reflect the current political reality. "Election results are not etched in stone. What matters more is the number of lawmakers that a party has at its disposal," he stated. This alludes to the fact that a group of lawmakers headed by Justice Minister Maria Kolikova jumped ship from the 'For the People' party to the SaS.
Sulik was saddened to see Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) react negatively to the fact that the SaS had made its letter to him public. This was not a problem in Sulik's view, as the letter contained nothing confidential or new. "The letter is not a summary of our demands, but the summary of what has happened. It is the explanation behind our decision," added Sulik.
