Slovak Interior Minister Roman Mikulec signed an agreement with his Lithuanian counterpart Agne Bilotaite on Monday in Prague on sending Lithuanian police officers to Slovakia. The spokeswoman for the Interior Ministry Zuzana Eliasova informed the TASR news agency about this on the same day. Lithuanian officers are supposed to help Slovakia protect public order and security on the border with Ukraine, which is the outer border of the Schengen area, in particular to provide assistance in the fight against illegal arming and arms trafficking on the border. The first three Lithuanian police officers are due to arrive in Slovakia on July 22 and will stay in the country for four weeks. They are qualified to search and identify weapons.
