Strong independent media, persuasive communication and adequate regulation of social networks are needed to fight disinformation, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Korčok said at the Dubrovnik Forum 2022 international conference on Saturday. “There are no simple solutions to the problem of disinformation...our efforts must strengthen, not weaken the freedom of expression and democratic exchange of opinions," said the Minister. “We lag behind mainly in communication, in explaining contexts, the concrete impacts of events and new phenomena, and above all our decisions”, he added.
According to Korčok, more and more space is thus being given to "populists and demagogues who every day come up with simple solutions to everything". The minister added that the path to persuading is not easy, but there is no need to give it up. The Dubrovnik Forum, held on July 8 and 9 this year, is one of the most important international conferences aimed at creating a space for discussion on key topical issues. Ministers and other high-ranking officials of countries, heads of international organisations, think-tanks and European institutions participated in the conference this year.
