37% of Slovaks not planning summer holiday this year for financial reasons

37% of Slovaks will not go on summer holiday this year, due to the current economic situation and restricted family budgets, according to a survey carried out by kariera.sk website on a sample of 3,255 people. At the same time, almost 25% of respondents are not planning to go on holiday at all this year, while 38% of Slovaks are planning to go on holiday. As many as 32% of the respondents are interested in relaxing in a popular seaside destination, while 6% would like to go on a sightseeing trip abroad. Meanwhile, 49% of the respondents would prefer to spend a holiday in Slovakia despite the relaxation of pandemic measures and the option of travelling abroad. Some 13% of Slovaks plan to go abroad and spend a holiday in their own country as well. Money plays a key role in the decision-making.

Increases in energy and food prices have influenced not only family budgets, but also decisions on how much people are willing to spend on a holiday. Partly for this reason, more than a third are not going anywhere on holiday this year, while 13% can afford to spend only up to €200 per family member on this purpose. Almost 20% of the respondents plan to spend €200-500 per person on a holiday this year, while some 18% have €500-1,000 available per person. Less than 8% of Slovaks are willing to spend over €1,500 per person.
