The European Parliament on Wednesday backed the European Commission's proposal to include nuclear power and gas among environmentally sustainable economic activities. The move to designate gas and nuclear as "green" energies has divided political factions in the EP, as well as Slovak MEPs. The European Parliament's Environment and Economics Committees have objected to the proposal. Slovak MEP Martin Hojsík is a co-author of the objection. "To label gas, the burning of which emits greenhouse gases into the air, as 'green' and therefore climatically beneficial is simply nonsense," Hojsík stated via his social media channels.
