The state-run arms maker Vojenský Opravárensky Podnik Nováky faced demise two years ago, a scenario that would have shed almost 200 jobs in the already much-afflicted region. However, after the entry of a private investor MSM Martin in 2013, the company is getting a second chance.
Not only has it won new orders, but it has managed to attract further investments. According to the Hospodárske noviny business daily two hundred people will find work at the joint venture of MSM Martin and the Czech arms industry, Česká Zbrojovka. In the future Nováky should produce Czech assault rifles BREN. The joint venture in Nováky will be opened by the Prime ministers of Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Róbert Fico and Bohuslav Sobotka, on Tuesday.
