Call for annulling charges against ex-Prime Minister and ex-Interior Minister

Smer-SD chair Robert Fico and ex-interior minister Robert Kalinak have reached out to the Prosecutor-General's Office, asking it to use the paragraph 363 to annul charges pressed against them by the National Criminal Agency (NAKA). It was the tvnoviny.sk website that first broke the news. "On June 15, 2022, the Prosecutor-General's Office received a proposal to employ the paragraph 363... with no decision yet having being taken in the matter," said the Prosecutor-General spokesperson Dalibor Skladan. He added that a prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor's Office also has not made a decision yet on Fico's and Kalinak's complaints against the decision to press charges. The paragraph 363 grants the Prosecutor-General the power to annul decisions by prosecutors or investigators in the pre-trial phase, if they stand in breach of the law. In April, as part of the operation codenamed Twilight, NAKA pressed charges against Robert Fico and Robert Kalinak of founding, orchestrating and supporting a criminal group, misuse of public official's powers and leaking trade, banking, postal, telecommunication or tax confidential information.
