Thursday's heatwave in Slovakia surpassed the June record for the highest daily air temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius, detected in Slovensky Grob back in 2012, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Office reported on its social network on the same day. The meteorological station in Somotor measured 38.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday. However, the heatwave was to culminate on Friday with the air temperature to hit 39 degrees Celsius some regions. On Thursday, the Bratislava University Hospital reported that it treated 35 people who suffered heatstroke-induced collapses. According to the hospital, the groups most endangered by heatstroke are seniors, pregnant women, little children, the chronically ill and people working outdoors or in overheated interiors.
