A memorial service was held on Tuesday in the village of Polomka in Horehronie to honour American and British soldiers who were captured or killed in the area during the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) in December of 1944. This according to the Director of the Human Resources Section of the Ministry of Defense, Martin Jakál, who attended along with the Deputy Chief of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic, Ľubomír Svoboda, the British Ambassador to Slovakia, Nigel Baker, and the Deputy Charge d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Slovakia, Jennifer F. Bosworth. Allied military missions performed special tasks in the insurgent territory during the SNP, with American and British members serving alongside their Soviet counterparts.
