A total of 4,197 people died in Slovakia in May 2022, the lowest figure seen since June 2020, the Statistics Office reported on Monday. At the same time, the figure was approximately 1 percent lower than the five-year average in 2015-2019 (before the coronavirus pandemic).
The below-average number of deaths was reported for the fifth consecutive month among persons of pre-productive (up to 14 years) and of productive age (from 15 to 64 years). The death rate in the 64+ age category was still slightly higher than average (by 2 percent). Those aged 65 years made up more than three in four deaths in May, stated the Statistics Office.
