Today we commemorate the victims of the communist regime. On Friday, tens of thousands of victims will be remembered for the second time in Slovakia. More than 30 years after the fall of the communist regime in the former Czechoslovakia, the government amended the law on public holidays. The commemorative day is also linked to the unjustly tried Silvester Krcmery, who on 24 June 1954 said at a court in Trencin: "You hold the power, but we are right!". Perhaps the most famous was the fabricated trial of Milada Horáková. She was accused of treason and sentenced to death. According to statistics, the communist regime executed almost 250 people for political reasons. Over 70 thousand people were convicted and imprisoned. On the occasion of the first commemoration of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Communist Regime in Košice, the Slovak multimedia Museum of the Victims of Communism is welcoming visitors at the entrance with the inscription: 'The victims of communism paved the way to our present freedom”.
