Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, should join the International Cities of Refuge Network, an independent network of cities and regions that offer refuge to persecuted or threatened writers and artists. It also promotes freedom of expression, the protection of democratic values and international solidarity. The member cities of this network offer temporary refuge to those threatened with harm for their creative activities. ICORN wants to host as many of these persecuted writers and artists as possible, and in so doing, together with other organisations, create a dynamic and sustainable global network in support of freedom of expression. Since 2006, more than 70 cities around the world have joined the network and have sheltered more than 200 writers and artists. ICORN includes cities from Krakow to Brussels, Pittsburgh to Mexico City.
