President discusses energy crisis with Portuguese counterpart

President Zuzana Caputova has had a phone call with her Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in which the heads of state talked about the energy crisis and the effects of the war in Ukraine on energy supplies to Europe and their prices. Rebelo de Sousa expressed interest in intensifying this exchange of experience between Slovakia and Portugal regarding the use of renewable energy sources. According to Caputova, the Portuguese president confirmed his willingness to support Slovakia in the need for the diversification of gas supplies. As she said, they also discussed Ukraine's EU-candidate status, as Portugal was considered a more sceptical country on this issue. The president added that she explained Slovakia's position to Rebelo de Sousa. The granting of candidate status to Ukraine at this week's European Union summit could be an important step not only for Ukrainians but also for the whole of Europe and its long-term security and stability, wrote Caputova on her social network post. Rebelo de Sousa has invited Caputova to visit Portugal.
