Most international EuroCity (EC) trains to Hungary will return to their route via the Sturovo border station as of Monday, national passenger carrier ZSSK has announced. The decision is based on an agreement with Hungarian rail company MAV START. International trains were rerouted due to a landslide in Hungary.
EC trains 270/271, 272/273, 274/275, 276/277, 278/279 and 286/287 will run between Prague, Bratislava, Sturovo and Szob, where passengers will need to switch to replacement buses that will travel between Szob and Nagymaros. Passengers will be able to switch back to trains to reach the final destination of the Budapest Nyugati station.
EC trains 130/131 and 280/281 and EN (EuroNight) 476/477 will remain rerouted via Rusovce-Rajka, avoiding the Bratislava-Sturovo section, until rail transport in the affected section is fully resumed.
"According to MAV START, the section between Szob and Nagymaros will probably be closed until the end of August 2022," said ZSSK spokesman Tomas Kovac, who apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused.
