Almost 1,100 allied troops in Slovakia

There are currently 1,089 Allied troops in Slovakia as part of NATO's enhanced forward presence. The approved mandate allows for a total of up to 3,000 Alliance troops. As part of cooperation with its allies, the country’s representatives will negotiate with the Czech Republic on the conditions for the protection of its airspace. Slovakia currently has serious problems with the operation of the current MiG-29 fighter jets. At the same time, the delivery of new F-16 fighter jets will be delayed by 12 to 14 months. The first seven ones should arrive in 2024, according to the Slovak Defence Ministry.
