One in three Slovaks will not go for summer holiday

As many as one in three Slovaks will not go anywhere on holiday this summer, while one in four will spend their holiday in Slovakia and three in ten plan to go abroad, according to a survey carried out by the Home Credit company. Half of those who plan to go on holiday expect to spend more money than they did last year, while 36% intend to spend the same sum and 14% anticipate a lower holiday budget. "Most respondents want to limit themselves to a sum of up to €1,200 for the whole family. Meanwhile, 8% intend to spend more than €2,000," said Home Credit analyst Jaroslav Ondrušek. More than 70% of the respondents will cover their holidays from their savings, while one in four plan to use their regular salaries.

The survey further showed that one in four Slovaks plan to spend a family holiday in Slovakia, while 27% will travel abroad. However, the most numerous group is made up of those who do not intend to go anywhere (32%). Another group of people (21%) do not have any clear holiday plans yet.

The highest share of Slovak holidaymakers (49%) will be accommodated in guest houses or hotels, one in five have opted for holiday houses or apartments, the same number will stay in cottages, and 11% will go camping.
