Anton Martvon of the currently-ruling Smer-SD political party is deeply concerned about a wild boar being raised by Independent MP Alojz Hlina at his farm in Stupava (Bratislava region). According to Martvon's account, the Opposition MP forcefully took the boar from the woods and has kept it on his farm illegally.
Martvon was interested in the wild boar story to such a degree that he inquired about potential punishment for illegal boar-keeping from Agricultural and Rural Development Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek twice during Question Time in the Parliament on Thursday. Justice Minister Tomáš Borec fielded the question on Jahnatek's behalf declaring that the alleged poaching should be looked into by the law enforcement authorities and added that the conditions in which the wild boar has lived have been scrutinised by inspectors. According to Borec, the wild boar wasn't registered in Stupava at first, although Hlina's wife fixed this later. Also, inspectors discovered that the animal was kept on the farm in inappropriate conditions. "The inspectors carried out a check and discovered that the farm didn't meet conditions for raising a wild boar. The pen wasn't large enough and the water regime not appropriate”, said Borec. However, he says that now the wild boar enjoys living standards fully compliant with the law. Upon hearing the minister's reply, Martvon bemoaned the fact that such animals are kept in captivity in the aforementioned manner. “I'm shocked”, he concluded.
