Inflation in Slovakia reached a record 12.6% in May

Inflation in Slovakia recorded a new high of 12.6% in May. It grew at a double-digit annual rate for the third month and is at its highest since June 2000, according to the Slovak Statistical Office. Food, fuel and energy prices in particular continue to rise. Slovaks have also paid significantly more in restaurants and cafés, for accommodation services and, most recently, for clothing and footwear. Food prices were 16.6% more expensive year-on-year for all nine items monitored. Rising prices of meat, bread and cereals, and dairy products have had the biggest impact on inflation. People in Slovakia also paid more for vegetables.
