The Slovak Catholic Charity is opening 25 support centres for refugees from Ukraine. By establishing such centres, they are responding to the needs that arose after the outbreak of the war. They are intended to serve as a first contact for people who have fled the conflict and to provide them with assistance with integration.
As explained by Miroslav Dzurech, Secretary General of SKCH, the centres are being opened thanks to the support of the Emergency Appeal. "This is a financial mechanism for dealing with crises and humanitarian disasters in the world. It is represented by Caritas Internationalis, an international organisation of which SKCH is a part," he said.
In Slovakia, according to SKCH, 75,000 people have so far applied for temporary shelter due to the conflict in Ukraine, of which about 12,000 live in the Košice region. In addition to Košice, support centres are open in Banská Bystrica, Bratislava, Brezno, Dolný Kubín, Kežmarok, Michalovce, Nitra, Nové Zámky, Poprad, Prešov, Revúca, Rožňava, Ružomberok, Skalica, Snina, Trnava, Vyšný Nemecky, Zlaté Moravce and Žilina.
