Slovakia posted a trade-balance deficit of €510 million in March, the Statistics Office revealed in its report. The country exported goods worth almost €8.87 billion in March, up 4.5% year-on-year (y-o-y), while imports amounted to €9.38 billion, up 19.4%. Meanwhile, the country's trade-balance deficit for the January-March period was €1.08 billion. A year ago the situation was much more favourable, with Slovakia showing a trade-balance surplus of €1.44 billion.
Goods worth over €24.47 billion were exported from Slovakia in the first quarter of this year, up 10.2% y-o-y. Imports amounted to some €25.56 billion, an increase of 23% y-o-y. The biggest surpluses were recorded in trade with Germany (€1.32 billion), Hungary (€910.9 million), the Czech Republic (€880.8 million), Poland (€796.2 million), Austria (€747.3 million), France (€669.5 million), the United Kingdom (€597.5 million), Italy (€549.2 million), the United States (€464.1 million), Spain (€298 million), and Romania (€291.9 million).
Conversely, the biggest deficits were in trade with Russia (€2.52 billion), South Korea (€1.27 billion), China (€1.21 billion), Vietnam (€1.13 billion), Malaysia (€141.2 million), Taiwan (€127.5 million), and Egypt (€104.3 million).
