Women are better educated yet don’t earn as much, in fact earn less, than their male counterparts. Based on numbers of the 2011 census, more than 60 percent of University graduates are women, yet their later earnings don’t reach those of men. This is what the draft state report on gender equality in Slovakia in the year 2013 says.
As the state report approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday quotes, the biggest gender inequality appears in higher posts, in positions where university education is required. In the business sphere women earn by a fourth less than men at the same position. Moreover, women fill up only a third of the positions in the Slovak legislature and top positions in institutions.
