By blocking grain in Ukrainian ports, Russia is terrorizing countries that have nothing to do with the Russia-Ukraine war and putting the populations of those countries at risk of famine, said Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger during a discussion with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer at the Globsec 2022 security conference. As the alternative of rail transport will not be sufficient to export Ukrainian products, Heger said it was his priority to help Ukraine secure its Black Sea ports so that it could start exporting its grain as soon as possible.
Heger argues that as many countries as possible must be involved in finding a solution to this problem, including those that have so far thought that the conflict in Ukraine does not concern them. The Slovak Prime Minister called on as many countries as possible to show Putin that it is their priority to solve this global problem.
What we need right now is to get grain out of Ukraine," agreed Nehammer, adding that “when we see what such a crisis would cause in North Africa, India or Pakistan, we need to find quick solutions. According to the Austrian Chancellor, the situation requires a mediator and he suggested the United Nations to be the one.
The Austrian Chancellor noted that the Western world has taken a united stand against Russian aggression, but still many countries in other parts of the world have not done so. "We are talking about China, India or the African continent. Our task is to convince them and also to protect them," Nehammer added.
