A set of Slovak language textbooks for children of foreigners and expatriates was launched as part of the Erasmus+ project last week. It is a set of five books and worksheets for preschoolers and schoolchildren in primary and secondary schools. The materials were prepared by the iCan language school in cooperation with experts from the State Pedagogical Institute. Three compatriot associations from England, Ireland and France also participated in the preparation.
The textbooks will be given to Ukrainian children free of charge. The kindergarten, primary or secondary school which they attend must register their interest with the iCan language school.
"We are glad that we have managed to publish the book so soon after thousands of Ukrainian children had to leave their homes and start a new life in Slovakia. However, the textbooks are meant to serve children coming from any country, and also children of Slovak parents living abroad," said Alona Kurotová from the language school. They started working on the series of textbooks two years ago.
The co-authors of the textbooks are Martina Uličná, Klaudia Báčkai and Zuzana Hirschnerová, who are also well known for their freshman textbooks and Slovak language textbooks for Slovak children. The set of textbooks includes a manual for the inclusion of children of foreigners into the educational process in the Slovak Republic, a translation glossary of basic terms, a textbook of first contact Slovak for school-age children, Slovak for each year of primary school for children of foreigners in the Slovak Republic, as well as material containing basic vocabulary of the Slovak language for preschool children.
