Regions want to negotiate compensation for budgetary shortfalls with Premier

Self-governing regions want to hold talks with Premier Eduard Heger and Finance Minister Igor Matovic on compensation for shortfalls in their budgets caused by the adoption of the anti-inflation aid package. The SK8 Self-governing Regions Association at its meeting on Thursday pointed to the fact that self-governing regions will have to take several measures with a negative impact on their functioning as a result of lower incomes. SK8 chairman and Trnava Regional Governor Jozef Viskupic labelled the meeting one of the toughest-ever. "If the state wants to finance its own priorities and help families, it should finance it from its own resources," said Viskupic. According to Bratislava Regional Governor Jura Droba, the adoption of the law on anti-inflation aid will mean that the regions will have to curb any development activities and will only function with big problems. Representatives of SK8, the Slovak Towns and Villages Association, and the Slovak Towns Union also want to meet President Zuzana Caputova in connection with the law on Monday, June 6. The self-governing regions are also ready to join the strike alert announced by the Slovak Towns and Villages Association. Regions will decide on the form of joining individually.
