New children’s ombudsman: “Same-sex couples not suitable for adopting children”

“I still think that same-sex couples are not suitable for adopting children,” the new commissioner for children Jozef Miklosko stated following a press briefing on Wednesday, emphasising that he wants to treat all children equally, regardless of their sexual orientation. "In this regard, I respect the current legislation, which clearly states this. My opinion is that it isn't suitable for children," he noted, adding that he does not want to open the topic because in his opinion it is not the biggest problem that bothers children. MPs elected Miklosko to the post of commissioner for children on May 25, replacing Viera Tomanova in office. The role of the commissioner for children is to protect their rights in relation to courts and authorities. In his post, Miklosko wants to promote the interests of all children. His priority will be the topics of mental health and poverty, and he also want to focus on the problems of marginalised groups.
