The Constitutional Court has turned down an appeal filed by convicted controversial entrepreneur Marian Kocner against a ruling of the Supreme Court, which sentenced him to 19 years in prison in the case of forged promissory notes in January 2021. Kocner is also currently undergoing a retrial in the case involving the 2018 murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiance Martina Kušnírová. In September 2020 Kocner was acquitted of playing a role in the murder, but in June 2021 the Slovak Supreme Court overturned the acquittal after the supervising prosecutor in the case filed an appeal. Kocner’s retrial is ongoing.
